The MWO/OWWA outreach team conducts contract verification, OWWA membership, and OEC issuance for the Overseas Filipino Workers in Lisbon, Portugal
LISBON, 5 FEBRUARY 2023 – The Madrid-based Migrant Workers Office (MWO), together with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), conducted an outreach mission at the Philippine Embassy in Lisbon, Portugal, on Sunday, 5 February 2023. This outreach mission was organized as part of the Philippine Embassy’s Linggo sa Embaixada, a regular first Sunday of the month activity where the Embassy opens for consular services.
The MWO/OWWA 2-member team outreach mission was headed by Labor Attaché, Nelson S. Victorino, together with OWWA Welfare Officer Corazon Sangco. This outreach mission was well received by the Overseas Filipino Workers in Portugal where they availed of the following services: a) MWO's contract verification, b) OWWA membership, and c) issuance of Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC).
MWO was previously known as the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) but was recently renamed Migrant Workers Office to better reflect this Office’s mandate. The newly established Department of Migrant Workers is mandated to facilitate the overseas employment and reintegration of Filipino workers, while taking into consideration the national development programs of the National Economic and Development Authority. It is also tasked to promote the empowerment and protection of OFWs through continuous training and knowledge development.
This labor outreach mission is usually conducted once a year to bring closer to the Overseas Filipino Worker these government labor services as well as provide opportunity for the Filipino workers in Portugal to dialogue with the Labor Attaché and Welfare Officer to better understand their issues and concerns.
