PHILIPPINE AMBASSADOR TO ANGOLA DISCUSSES FUTURE COOPERATION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF MIGRANT WORKERS IN MANILA

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Philippine non-resident Ambassador to Angola, Paul Raymund P. Cortes and Philippine Honorary Consul Megan Brechet-Amamou called on Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac of the Department of Migrant Workers on Wednesday, 19 March 2025. They were joined by DMW Undersecretary for Foreign Employment and Welfare Services, Felicitas Q. Bay.

Honorary Consul Brechet-Amamou initiated the discussions with a comprehensive overview of Angola’s economy, highlighting its growth and diversification strategies. She provided an analysis of Angola’s future needs in terms of its professional base, underscoring potential areas for bilateral cooperation and skill development.

Secretary Cacdac affirmed the Philippines’ commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of Filipino workers abroad, stating that it remains a top priority. He shared recent developments in cooperation with Eastern European countries and the establishment of migrant workers officers in Hungary, Slovenia, and Croatia, with plans to expand further into Africa, starting with Nigeria.

This meeting marked the first engagement of the Honorary Consulate General of the Philippines in Angola with the newly formed Department of Migrant Workers. It set a positive tone for future collaborations aimed at enhancing support for migrant workers and strengthening bilateral relations between the Philippines and Angola. END
