PHILIPPINE AMBASSADOR PAUL RAYMUND P. CORTES DISCUSSES ECO-TOURISM AND MARITIME CONNECTIVITY WITH CABO VERDE’S MINISTER FOR TOURISM AND INFRASTRUCTURE
Philippine Ambassador to Cabo Verde, Paul Raymund P. Cortes, met with Cabo Verde’s Minister of Tourism and Infrastructure, Carlos Jorge Duarte Santos, on 28 June 2024 to discuss various topics of mutual interest between the Philippines and Cabo Verde, particularly on eco-tourism and marine connectivity.
During the meeting, Ambassador Cortes emphasized the mutual interest of the Philippines and Cabo Verde in prioritizing eco-tourism and environmental sustainability as key components of each country’s tourism strategies. Ambassador Cortes also took the opportunity to propose organizing meetings between Philippine and Cabo Verdean tourism officials to explore and exchange views and best practices in tourism marketing, digital promotion, and sustainable tourism development.
Minister Suarez acknowledged the positive impact of Filipino seafarers who frequently visit the island of São Vicente, noting the favorable impression Filipinos left on the Cabo Verdean community. Ambassador Cortes likewise expressed appreciation to the
Minister’s kind words and suggested the possibility of exploring a visa waiver agreement to facilitate increased tourism and ease travel for Filipino seafarers working on cruise ships docking in Cabo Verde.
Ambassador Cortes and Minister Suarez also exchange views on inter-island connectivity. Noting Cabo Verde’s interest in the Philippines' policies and strategies on maritime connectivity. Ambassador Cortes expressed willingness to share the Philippines' expertise and experience in this area to enhance Cabo Verde's maritime
connectivity.
Through this meeting with the Ministry of Tourism of Cabo Verde, the Philippine Embassy looks forward to strengthening bilateral relations with Cabo Verde through enhanced cooperation in tourism and other sectors. END
