PHILIPPINE AMBASSADOR PAUL RAYMUND P. CORTES PAYS COURTESY TO CABO VERDE’S MINISTER OF COMMUNITIES

As part of his presentation of credentials and recent official engagements in Cabo Verde, Philippine Ambassador Paul Raymund P. Cortes met with the Minister of Communities Jorge Pedro Mauricio Dos Santos on 27 June 2024.

Minister dos Santos shared that the recent set up of a new Ministry of Communities, which was originally under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aimed to handle affairs of Cabo Verde’s diaspora and had become necessary since their government had fully integrated their Consular programs and activities for the needs of their overseas communities through a digital platform.

Ambassador Cortes commended the efforts of their government in engaging with the diaspora and focusing on various issues that connect with migration policy such as development, cultural relations, and social development, among many others.

Ambassador Cortes took the opportunity to propose avenues for exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices, particularly in the areas of migration policy and diaspora engagement. The Minister has agreed to the suggestion of Ambassador Cortes and welcomes the Philippines' representation at the event organized by the Government of Cabo Verde and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on 12 and 13 September 2024.
