Philippines, São Tomé and Príncipe Explore Cooperation in Agriculture, Tourism, and Architectural Restoration
19 February 2025, São Tomé – Philippine Ambassador to São Tomé and Príncipe Paul Raymund P. Cortes called on the Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Communities, Her Excellency Ilza Maria dos Santos Amado Vaz of São Tomé and Príncipe, to discuss potential areas of cooperation between the two nations.
Ambassador Cortes highlighted key sectors where the Philippines and São Tomé and Príncipe could collaborate, emphasizing on agriculture, tourism, and architectural restoration. On agriculture, Ambassador Cortes noted that both countries could learn from each others’ respective expertise in rice and cocoa production. He also emphasized the value of sharing best practices to promote sustainable development.
“The Philippines has extensive experience in rice production, a vital sector for food security, as well as in developing a thriving tourism industry and restoring historical architecture. We see great potential for cooperation with São Tomé and Príncipe in these areas,” the Ambassador stated.
Foreign Minister Vaz expressed interest in learning from the Philippines’ experiences and welcomed cooperation to advance Philippines-São Tomé and Príncipe bilateral relations.
Ambassador Cortes is in São Tomé for the presentation of his credentials to President Carlos Manuel Vila Nova. Earlier this week, he met with Chief of State Protocol Rui César to discuss arrangements related to the ceremony. END
